Shape Drawing Lesson

In this lesson, we practice drawing geometric and organic shapes. This process-based lesson will help take your drawing skills to the next level. If you want to build art-muscles, especially DRAWING-muscles, practicing lines and shapes is the first step in your journey. Understanding how shapes are made with individual lines and taking your time to build each one will increase your patience and awareness of composition.

Geometric shapes are shapes with RULES.
Here are some examples: A triangle has to have 3 sides and 3 angles. A square has to have four equal sides and angles. A circle is a mathematically precise curved line that’s edge is equal distance from a center point the entire way around.
These types of shapes have to follow specific rules to be called those shapes.

Organic shapes are shapes with NO RULES.
They are often found in nature, tend to have softer less distinct edges, and have no set amount of sides or angles. Some examples include clouds, rocks, puddles, a leaf, your body, and a splatted egg on the floor.
